Children today on average play outside only 4 hours a week. In Flagstaff, we like to think that our kids are spending more time outdoors exploring and seeking adventures, but many children in our community either don't have the opportunity or don't have family encouragement to spend time outdoors. Kids need access to quality experiential and environmental education regardless of their socio-economic status or access to open space. Through our School Garden Program, Terra BIRDS provides gardening education on school grounds for Flagstaff Unified School District (FUSD) students grades K-12, focusing on themes of sustainability, stewardship, and community wellness.
